Biography

Austrian flatwater canoeist Werner Bachmayer participated in two Olympics, at Moskva (Moscow) in 1980 and Los Angeles in 1984. He partnered Wolfgang Hartl and was eliminated in the 1980 semi-final in in the K2-500. In 1984 the pair qualified for both the 500 and 1,000 metres. Over 500 metres they reached the final but placed ninth and last. Over 1,000 metres they were eliminated in the semi-finals. In 1983, the duo won a bronze medal at the Sprint Canoe World Championships (over 1,000 metres). Bachmayer became sporting director at WAT Kanuzentrum Kuchelau.
