Flatwater canoeist Karl Molnar, the uncle of Gertrude Liebhart, represented Austria at the 1948 London Olympics in the Canadian doubles partnering Viktor Salmhofer. He did not start in the singles for unknown reasons despite being selected. With Salmhofer, Molnar placed fifth over 1,000 metres and fourth over 10,000 metres, clearly behind bronze medallists from France, Georges Dransart and Georges Gandil. The previous year, Molnar won the European Championships in the Canadian singles over 1,000 metres.
