Biography

Janina Kaczkowska was a graduate student at the Warszawa Academy of Fine Arts from 1927-32. Subsequently she worked successfully for a Warszawa graphic studio. In cooperation with the studio of decorative and advertising graphics at the University of Warszawa she took part successfully in design competitions.

In 1933, she met her future husband, Albanian diplomat Thoma Luarasi, while she was travelling in Dalmatia. As a diplomat, Luarasi had to receive special permission from Albanian King Zoga I to marry a foreigner. They had a son Genc, who became a well-known chemical engineer, and a long-time lecturer at the University of Tirana, where Janina Kaczkowska-Luarasi worked for some time in the department of national folklore, but was later removed from her position as a foreigner. She visited Poland for the last time in 1942, and died in Tirana in 1995.

While she was still a student Janina Kaczkowska qualified in a national competition for the art competitions with the woodcut Narciarz (Skier).
