Matt Martin was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the fourth round of the 1989 NHL Draft, but went on to play three seasons at the University of Maine. He joined the Maple Leafs after the 1994 Winter Olympics and played in parts of four NHL seasons with the club, appearing in 76 NHL games. Between 1992-97 he also played with their AHL (American Hockey League) affiliate, the St. Johns Maple Leafs.
In 1997 Martin also played with the US National Team at the World Championships. He finished his career with three seasons (1997-2000) in the International Hockey League with the Chicago Wolves and Michigan K-Wings, and then a final season (2000/01) with the Idaho Steelheads of the West Coast Hockey League. Martin did not play after that but only officially retired in 2003.
