Sharon Geary

Sharon Geary swam at Stanford University, and later became a member of the Stanford Athletic Hall of Fame. She competed at the 1951 Pan American Games, winning three gold medals. The daughter of well-known naval architect Leslie “Ted” Geary, Sharon became a top sailor, competing in the TransPac Race from San Pedro, California to Honolulu, and placing second in her class. She later started the youth sailing program at the California Yacht Club. Geary also became one of the first female glider pilots in the United States.

Sharon Geary married Merritt Adamson, Jr., who she had met when her father custom built a yacht for his family. The couple raised four children, although Adamson died in 1986. After his death Sharon became president of Mariposa Land Company, a land holdings business, and ran it with two of her children, Grant Adamson and Leslie London. In 1991 Sharon married Geoffrey Gee, who she also met through boating.
