Biography

Robert Cordner’s participation at the Olympic Games was only a small part of his distinguished life. At the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, alongside George Ward, he competed in the K-2 1000 metres, but was eliminated in round one. During his training, he studied at McGill University and ran a construction company after his graduation. He used his Olympic and business reputation to launch a career in municipal politics, becoming the city of LaSalle’s longest-serving city councillor. Among his many projects in this capacity, he promoted healthy living through the construction of athletic spaces. He also remained active athletically himself, running marathons into his 80s.
