Thomas Welsh raced the eight for the US team at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. He was a two-time World Champion, winning gold in the eight in 1998-99. Welsh also helped win the Nations Cup in 1996 in the eight, finishing second in that event in 1998.
Welsh attended Princeton University, graduating in 1999 with a degree in electrical engineering. After college he worked as an electrical engineer with Ocean Power Technologies from 1999-2002. He then went into the financial world, working with Merrill-Lynch from 2002-08, before moving to the San Francisco Bay Area and starting Enformed, a tech company, and then becoming a partner with Novarca North American, a Swiss-based financial consulting firm. Welsh also returned to graduate school in 2021 at U Cal Berkeley, studying for a master’s of information in data science.
