Hans-Peter Steinacher

Three-time Olympian Hans-Peter Steinacher was an Austrian sailor participating at the 2000 Sydney, 2004 Athens and 2008 Beijing Games. At Beijing, he was the Austrian Flagbearer at the opening ceremony.

Steinacher partnered the well-known Roma Hagara and won the gold medal in the multihull (tornado) class in 2000 and 2004, dominating the competition at the Sydney Games. At Beijing, they placed ninth. Steinacher and Hagara also won the World Championships in 1999, and added silver medals in 2000 and 2001, and a bronze in 2006.

At European Championships the pair added four gold medals (1997, 2000-01,2006) and two silver medals (2003, 2005). In 2000 and 2004, they were awarded the Decoration of Honour for Services to the Republic of Austria. The same years, the pair were elected Sportspersons of the Year in Austria.

In December 2021, Alinghi founder Ernesto Bertarelli and Steinacher announced the launch of the new Alinghi Red Bull Racing with Steinacher becoming the tactician in the Extreme Sailing Series.
