Austrian sailor Roman, brother of Andreas Hagara was a four-time Olympian in the multihull (tornado) class from 1992 at Barcelona to 2008 at Beijing. He partnered his brother in 1992, and they placed seventh. From 2000, Roman sailed with Hans-Peter Steinacher and they won the gold medal in 2000 and 2004 and placed ninth in 2008. Also in 2004, Hagara was the Austrian flagbearer at the Opening Ceremony.
Hagara won two World Championships (1987, 1989), was runner-up (2000-01), and third (1990, 2006). He also won five European Championships (1990, 1997, 2000-01, 2006) and was runner-up twice (2003, 2005).
Hagara later worked with the Austrian Sailing Federation as head of technology. He also coached and managed the national team.
