Hartwell Jordan was a sailor who crewed in Soling alongside Jeff Madrigali and Craig Healy at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. His mother Barbara Stark was a swimmer who competed at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. Jordan sailed out of the San Francisco Yacht Club. He started college at the University of the Pacific but finished at UC Irvine, with a degree in economics and business management.
Jordan became an independent marine consultant and sailing professional. He was on the US National Team from 1997-2000 and then worked on the Prada Challenge for the 2003 Americas Cup. He later became a project manager at Lexus Racing, and then was sail coordinator, coach, and crew for Desafio Español from 2005-07. He worked in similar positions over the next 15 years with various organizations, including the Bella Mente Racing Team, Power Play Racing Team, Container Racing Team, Sea Dubai Racing Team, Team Germany for an Americas Cup Challenge, and Schuetz Industries.
