Born to Czechoslovak parents, Sylvia Plischke moved with her family to Austria when she was six-years-old, where she later became a professional tennis player. Plischke achieved a career-best singles ranking of #27 in the world in June 1999 and a doubles ranking of #78 in the world in January 2001. On the ITF Circuit she won two singles and two doubles titles, with her only WTA title coming in the doubles at the 2000 Wismilak International in Kuala Lumpur with Slovakia’s Henrieta Nagyová. Plischke also played on Austria’s Fed Cup team and represented her nation at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Her mother Alena Prosková had previously competed in the high jump for Czechoslovakia at the 1972 München Olympics.
