Biography

Els Callens was a Belgian tennis player who played professionally from 1990 to 2011. Callens achieved a career-best singles ranking of #43 in the world in February 1997 and a doubles ranking of #12 in the world in May 2001. While she never won a WTA singles title, she did win 11 titles on the ITF Circuit between 1990 and 2002. She had better success in the doubles, winning 10 WTA titles and 10 ITF titles. Callens had her best results in 2000, reaching the doubles semi-finals at the US Open and winning bronze at the Sydney Olympics, both with compatriot Dominique Van Roost.
