Biography

Fabiola Zuluaga was a Colombian tennis player who played professionally from 1994 to 2005. Zuluaga achieved a career-best singles ranking of #16 in the world in April 2000 and a doubles ranking of #128 in the world in February 1999. She won four of her five WTA singles titles at her home tournament, the Copa Colsanitas, with her first victory coming in 1999, followed by three consecutive wins from 2002 to 2004. Zuluaga’s other WTA title came at the Brasil Open in 1999, beating Patricia Wartusch in three sets. In 2002 she partnered with María Emilia Salerni of Argentina, with the pair finishing as runners-up at the Tournoi de Québec in Canada.

In 2000 Zuluaga made her first appearance at the Olympics, competing in the singles and doubles, partnering with Mariana Mesa in the latter. Four years later she returned for the 2004 Athina Games, this time pairing with Catalina Castaño. Zuluaga also had her best results at Grand Slams in 2004 when she reached the third round at the US Open, the fourth round at the French Open, and the semi-finals at the Australian Open. At the latter she lost in straight sets to the eventual champion Justine Henin.
