Biography

Fernando Vicente was a Spanish tennis player who played professionally from 1996 to 2011 Vicente achieved a career-best singles ranking of #29 in the world in June 2000 and a doubles ranking of #61 in the world in November 2006. In 1997 he won bronze in both the singles and the doubles at the Mediterranean Games, pairing with compatriot Alberto Martín in the latter. Between 1999 and 2006 he also won three singles and two doubles titles on the ATP Tour. In 2000 Vicente reached the fourth round of the French Open where he lost to Yevgeny Kafelnikov (RUS) in five sets. That same year he also played in the singles at the Sydney Olympics, where he defeated Andrew Ilie (AUS) in the first round before losing to Fabrice Santoro (FRA).

After retiring as a player Vicente became a coach, working with Spanish players Marcel Granollers and Marc López, and the Russian Andrey Rublyov, who won gold in the mixed doubles at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. For his coaching performances Vicente was named the ATP Coach of the Year in 2020.
