Shinobu Asagoe was a Japanese tennis player who played professionally from 1997 to 2006. Asagoe achieved a career-best singles ranking of #21 in the world in April 2005 and a doubles ranking of #13 in the world in May 2006. In the early 2000s she reached the singles finals of three WTA Tour events but did not win. She had more success, however, in the doubles, winning eight titles between July 2002 and April 2006.
In 2006 Asagoe and her partner Katarina Srebotnik reached the semi-finals of the doubles at the Australian Open but lost in straight sets. Her best singles performance at a Grand Slam came at the 2004 US Open where she lost to Lindsay Davenport in the quarter-finals. At the 2000 Sydney Olympics Asagoe lost to Els Callens in the first round of the singles to be eliminated. Four years later she competed in both the singles and doubles at the Athens Games, finishing fourth in the latter with Ai Sugiyama.
