Biography

Venus Williams is one of only two female Olympic tennis players to have won four Olympic titles. One of the dominant players in the women’s game since 2000, Venus Williams has won 21 Grand Slam titles through 2013, including seven singles titles. Her sister, Serena Williams, is also a top tennis player, having surpassed Venus as a singles player in terms of championships, but the two have won the Olympic women’s doubles in 2000, 2008, and 2012. Serena is the other female to have won four Olympic tennis gold medals. They have also frequently been rivals, meeting each other in eight Grand Slam finals between 2001 and 2009, with Venus winning two of the encounters. Known for her powerful game, Venus Williams has been ranked #1 on the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) list three times for a total of 11 weeks.
