Biography
Joe McCormick and his brother, Larry, were Canadian-born, hailing from Buckingham, Quebec. Joe had travelled south and enlisted in the US Army in 1915 and his brother followed shortly afterwards. Because they held an honorable discharge from the Army they were entitled to automatic US citizenship and in March 1920, just five weeks before the Olympic Games, they both became naturalized Americans. The McCormick brothers represented the Pittsburgh AA team and Joe was a left wing who captained the 1920 ice hockey team. Joe McCormick graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in electrical engineering.

Errata
A date of death of 22nd January 1934 has also been suggested as his obituary was published on the following day - but this is a mistake, and is likely an elder brother who is known to have died at that time. We have the obituary for Joe McCormick from 14 June 1958, confirming that this is the Olympic hockey player who died on this date.
