Jake McCoy played for the US at the 1964 Winter Olympics. He played college hockey for the University of Minnesota, after starring in high school at DeLaSalle High, where he was named Minnesota All-State Junior. McCoy played one known year of minor league hockey, with the Minnesota Nationals of the US Hockey League in 1967-68. He later began coaching youth hockey teams, and then became a long-time high school hockey coach in Minnesota at Richfield High and Minneapolis Washburn High Schools. McCoy was inducted into the Minnesota Hockey Coaches Hall of Fame in 2008 and received the Cliff Thompson Award from the Minnesota State High School League in 2013 for his contributions to prep hockey.
