Andrew Murtha began his skating career with the Blacktown Skating Club in suburban Sydney. In 1991 he was part of the Australian relay quartet that won the World Championship title on home ice in Sydney to become Australia’s first ever world champions in a major winter sport. In addition to his World gold and Olympic bronze medals he won a silver and bronze in World Championship relays in 1993 and 1994. Murtha was team manager to the Australian short-track team at the 1998 Winter Games.
