Biography

A defenseman, Travis Richards played four years of college hockey at the University of Minnesota, graduating in 1993. He was drafted by the Minnesota North Stars in the ninth round of the 1988 NHL Draft, but would end up playing only three games in the NHL, all with the relocated Dallas Stars, two games in the 1994/95 season and one game in the 1995/96 season.

After playing three seasons with the Kalamazoo Wings and the Michigan K-Wings of the International Hockey League (IHL), in 1997 Richards joined the Grand Rapids Griffins of the IHL. In 2001 the team moved to the American Hockey League (AHL), but Richards played 10 full seasons with Grand Rapids, and his number 24 was retired by the club. He and his family settled in Grand Rapids where he later managed an ice arena.
