Lauri Silván was a member of the Tampereen Tappara ice hockey club during the 1950s and was third in the SM-sarja, the top Finnish league at the time, in 1951. He went on to win the league in three consecutive years, 1953 through 1955. During that time, he also represented Finland abroad in 22 matches, including at the 1952 Oslo Olympics and the 1954 World Championships.
