Biography

Born in Poland in 1920, Tadeusz Świcarz took part in the Warsaw Uprising during World War II but was captured by the Germans before making his eventual escape. Świcarz was a talented sportsman who played both football and ice hockey, with the two careers running in parallel. On the ice he represented multiple clubs including Polonia, Legia, and Gwardia Bydgoszcz, winning three league titles with Legia (1951–53). He also played 16 matches for Poland, including competing at the 1952 Oslo Olympics.

During the interwar period Świcarz played football for Skra and Ursus in underground games in the nation’s capital. Once the war was over he joined Polonia Warszawa, winning the Polish league title in 1946. He then joined Legia Warszawa in 1950 before playing for a couple of other teams in the early part of the decade and then returning to Legia in 1953. Świcarz was also capped five times for Poland in the 1940s.
