Mike Wasko competed in track & field for Fairleigh Dickinson University, specializing in hurdles and sprints. He was a three-time MET Conference Champion in the hurdles, an eight-time conference hurdle champion and a two-time member of the All-East Team. Wasko then earned an MBA degree at Fairleigh Dickinson, working as a graduate assistant on the track team while he did so. In bobsled he was on the 1988 World Cup Tour for the USA, placing second at the Austrian Championships in the 2-man, and third in the 4-man. He was named the 1988 USOC Bobsled Athlete of the Year. Wasko later became a teacher and principal in New Hampshire, before settling in Whippany, New Jersey, where he worked as a middle school principal.
