Jim Westby came from a famous hockey family in Minneapolis, and took his defense talents to the University of Minnesota. His brother, Gerry, played for the US National Team in 1958-59 and 1962-63, competing at the 1963 World Championships. Jim played some minor league hockey with the Minneapolis Bungalows and the Fort Frances Canadians.
