Walter, father of Peter Znenahlik, was an Austrian ice hockey forward who participated in the 1956 Cortina d’Ampezzo Winter Olympics, where the team placed tenth and last. Four years later at Squaw Valley, he was again on the team and finished 13th. In total, Znenahlik won 92 international caps and scored 42 goals.
Domestically, Znenahlik played with Wiener (Vienna) EV, EHC Feldkirch, Kitzbüheler EC, WAT Stadlau, HC Salzburg, and UEC Mödling before he turned to coaching. He later owned a shop selling ice hockey and inline skating accessories.
