The tennis events of the 1896 Olympics were held at the cycling velodrome, the Neon Phaliron, and at the Athens Lawn Tennis Club, near the Ilissos River. Two tennis courts were constructed in the infield of the velodrome and a few matches were contested there. The tennis tournament had none of the top players in the world, who were mostly the Brits who starred at Wimbledon. No Americans competed either.
