Fritz Traun was supposed to enter the tennis doubles with a partner whose name has not survived, but who withdrew from an injury. He then competed with John Pius Boland, who had defeated him in the singles, and they won the championship. No records of any of the match results, other than the final, exist.

Traun was a good German athlete, but primarily as a runner. Between 1893 and 1894 he set several German records at distances from 880 yards up to 2 miles. He competed in the 100 metres and 800 metres in Athens but did not qualify for the finals.
