The order of events was the same as in 1932 and 1936 – riding, fencing, shooting, swimming, and running. The event was held over six days (30 July-4 August), with two days devoted to épée fencing (30 July-1 August). Scoring was again by point-for-place scoring in the five phases. The sport finally would get an International Federation as the Union Internationale de Modern Pentathlon was founded during the London Olympics, on 3 August 1948.
