The program was the same as in 1952, with the kilometre time trial, match sprint, tandem match sprint, and team pursuit, and were held at the 333.33 metre concrete-surfaced Olympic Velodrome. Italy won the team pursuit and kilometre time trial (Leandro Faggin), while French sprinter Michel Rousseau won the match sprint and Australia won the tandem sprint.
