Most of the 1992 equestrian events took place at the Real Club de Polo Barcelona, with the eventing dressage and endurance phases held elsewhere, at the Club Hípico El Montanyà, Montanyà, although it had originally been scheduled for Parc del Remolar in downtown Barcelona. The Real Club de Polo Barcelona was founded in 1897 and had facilities for polo, hockey (field), tennis, squash, and swimming. Club Hípico El Montanyà was a horse club that had been built in 1991 over a defunct golf course.
Team and individual jumping event were contested at Barcelona. The first two rounds on the first day determined the team placements and medals and also qualified riders for a second phase of the individual competition. After that phase, 44 riders (or 50% of the starters and ties) advanced to a final round jumping. Germany’s Ludger Beerbaum took the individual gold while the Netherlands won the team gold medal.
