The 2002 Alpine skiing events were held all over the place. The downhill, super-G and combined events were conducted at Snowbasin Ski Area, on the slopes of Mount Ogden and one of the oldest ski resorts in the United States, located in Ogden, Utah, 55 km. north of Salt Lake City on Interstate 15. Men’s and women’s slaloms were held at Deer Valley Resort, an Alpine resort up in the Wasatch Range in Park City, Utah, 30 km. east of Salt Lake City. The men’s and women’s giant slaloms were held at Park City Mountain Resort, also in Park City, and an older ski area than its sister resort of Deer Valley. Deer Valley is the home resort of Norwegian Olympic ski legend Stein Eriksen. The weather was fairly good for the Alpine events in 2002, with only the women’s downhill postponed by one day because of strong winds. The women’s combined downhill was also delayed a few hours due to high winds and held after the slalom.
