The competition was precisely the same as in 1994 and 1998, with moguls and aerials events for men and women. The event formats were also the same. The freestyle skiing was held at Park City Mountain Resort, just east of Salt Lake City. Interestingly the Americans did not win any gold medals on their own turf, while they had won 4 of 10 at the previous three Winter Olympics.
