The canoe slalom Olympic Programme underwent some changes for Paris 2024. The only events were singles, as men’s Canadian doubles had been dropped from the programme in 2020. But two new events were added, with Kayak Cross singles for both men and women. Kayak cross, sometimes called kayak slalom extreme, consists of head-to-head races between two or more canoeists over a whitewater course.
The programme was now equal for men and women, with both genders competing in kayak singles, Canadian (canoe) singles, and kayak cross singles. The whitewater rapids were at the National Olympic Nautical Stadium d’Île-de-France, in Vaires-sur-Marne.
The dominant paddler at Paris 2024 was Australia’s Jess Fox, who won gold medals in both kayak and Canadian singles. She was also favored in the kayak cross but struggled and finished only 26th. In her fifth Olympics, this brought Fox’s medal total to six medals and three gold medals, both the best of all-time for the discipline, although her three gold medals are equaled by Tony Estanguet (FRA) and the Slovakian Hochschorner brothers, Pavel and Peter.
