Diving at the 2024 Summer Olympics

Dates 27 July – 10 August 2024
Medal Events 8

Despite there being three mixed diving events at the World Aquatics Championships since 2015, and with many mixed events having been added to various sports in recent Olympic Games, the diving programme remained unchanged for Paris 2024. Like three years earlier, the diving events were held indoors, at the Paris Olympic Aquatic Centre, in Saint-Denis.

Chinese divers had won all eight Olympic events at the most recent World Aquatics Championships and were expected to dominate in Paris. China had won the most gold medals in the sport at every Games since 1988, “conceding” just a single gold medal at times. The 2024 Games marked the first time that China had won all eight available gold medals, with no other country providing an Olympic diving champion. It was also the first time any nation swept all diving gold medals since 1952, when divers from the United States dominated the events, albeit just four of them back then. In addition to the eight golds, China also collected two silvers and a bronze, out of a possible maximum of four silvers. The success also moved China to the top of the all-time diving medal ranking. With 55 golds, the Asian nation surpassed the United States, which had been the leading nation since the 1920s.

Of the Chinese divers, two women stood out, each with two golds: Chen Yiwen won both springboard events, while compatriot Quan Hongchan claimed her second platform gold (after Tokyo) and also won the synchronized platform title. Cao Yuan won his fourth gold medal, having earlier won in London, Rio, and Tokyo.

Behind China, the British divers were next the most successful, winning five medals. Tom Daley added his fifth Olympic medal, a silver in the men’s synchronised platform. Two Asian nations débuted on the Olympic podium. The DPR Korea won its its first two Olympic diving medals, a silver and a bronze, while Rikuto Tamai took Japan’s first ever medal in the sport (platform silver).
