François Béchard of France had won the 1919 Inter-Allied Championship but he did not compete at Antwerp. Adolf Lindfors was likely the favorite as he had competed in the 1912 Olympics, losing in the 4th round, and was runner-up at the 1911 World Championships in Helsinki. At Antwerp, Lindfors performed the rare feat of pinning his way to victory - he won all five matches by a pin. In addition to his gold medal, Adolf Lindfors was awarded possession of the Challenge Prize that had been donated by Gold & Silversmiths of London.
