Apollonios was late for registration at Olympia, which he claimed to be due to bad weather. Opponent Herakleides revealed that this was not true, as Apollonios had been attending other festivals (in Ionia) for the prize money. This caused Apollonius to be disqualified, with Herakleides heralded as the winner. This enraged Apollonios, who assaulted his fellow Alexandrian.
