Cortina saw the first women’s doubles in luge at Olympic Games, while World Championships had been held in the event since 2022. Previously the Olympic doubles luge had always technically been an open event, although no women ever competed in it at the Olympic Winter Games.
The Italian double of Andrea Vötter and Marion Oberhofer took advantage of their greater experience on the newly opened home track to achieve the best times in both runs. Their total lead, however, was just over 1/10th of a second. Previously, the Italians had only claimed one bronze at the World Championships (2023) in the Olympic format but won the overall World Cup for two seasons.
With second places in both runs, the Germans Dajana Eitberger and Magdalena Matschina kept the 2024 and 2025 World Champions, Selina Egle and Lara Kipp (AUT), at bay to win silver. Another top team came from Latvia, consisting of Marta Robežniece and Kitija Bogdanova. The fourth placed Latvians were separated from gold by just 0.512 seconds while the fifth placed US team was another 8/10ths of a second behind.
