Reigning World Champion and top seed Matea Jelić from Croatia came through the Olympic tournament in Tokyo without any problems. Only Britain’s Lauren Williams caused her to have to raise her performance, before the Croatian won the final 25-22. Ruth Gbagbi of the Ivory Coast won a second successive bronze medal, and the other bronze went to Egypt’s Hedaya Malak, who also won a bronze at Rio 2016.
