Three boxers competed in the featherweight class. Frank Haller defeated Fred Gilmore in the first round but then lost a decision to Oliver Kirk in the final. Haller had a 10lb/4kg weight advantage over Kirk and had a day’s rest after the semi-final whilst Kirk had also won the gold medal in the bantamweight class earlier in the day. In an even contest Kirk’s superior speed was the deciding factor. Kirk is the only Olympic boxer ever to win two gold medals at one Olympic Games. The 1904 AAU Champion was T. F. Fitzpatrick but he was not entered in the Olympics.
