Notes | 1903-1919 : the CASG club was created and known under the name “Club Athlétique de la Société Générale” by the bank “Société Générale” During 1919-2002, it was renamed “Club Athlétique des Sports Généraux” but keep its CASG appellation. In 2002, “Société Générale” bank sold the club to “Groupe Lagardère” and became “Paris Jean-Bouin” in reference to the great French athlete Jean Bouin (athletes/68086) who died during the WWI and who gave his name to the main stadium of the club: the Jean-Bouin stadium, located in the 16th arrondissement of Paris near the “Parc des Princes” (actual PSG foot club stadium). The CASG was an omnisport club of the bank “Société Générale”, having different sport sections like athletics, football, rugby,… The club was located in several french cities, mainly Paris, Marseille, Bordeaux. That’s why you often find the name “CASG” alone in old newspapers but also “CASG Paris”, “CASG Marseille” (i.e. for Jean Bouin) or “CASG Bordeaux” to distinguish between different places where the CASG was located. |
