Christian Ruud

Christian Ruud was a Norwegian tennis player who played professionally from 1991 to 2001. Rudd achieved a career-best singles ranking of #39 in the world in October 1995, and a doubles ranking of #264 in the world in August 1993. He played on Norway’s Davis Cup team from 1989 to 2000.

Rudd won 12 ATP Challenger titles between 1993 and 1998 with his first win coming at the Tampere Open in Finland with victory against Xavier Daufresne. His best Grand Slam performance came at the 1997 Australian Open when he reached the singles fourth round where he lost to Goran Ivanišević.

Rudd competed in the singles at three consecutive Olympic Games; 1992 Barcelona, 1996 Atlanta, and 2000 Sydney, with his best performance coming at the 1996 Games when he reached the third round. Rudd also competed in the doubles with Bent-Ove Pedersen in Barcelona but the pair lost in the first round.

He is the father of Casper Ruud, the first Norwegian male player to make the world’s top 10, which he did in late 2021, and the first Norwegian male to make the final of a Grand Slam event, the 2022 French Open.
