Walter Hasenfus was from Needham, Massachusetts. He competed in the C-2 10K alongside his brother, Joseph. Their sister, Olive Hasenfus, was a sprinter, who was named as an alternate to the 1928 US Olympic track & field squad. Walter Hasenfus was killed in action during World War II in December 1944, while serving with the 307th Infantry, 77th Division in the South Pacific, most likely in the Philippines.
