Czechoslovak cyclist Vlastimil Moravec had a strong start to his career, winning the Tour of Slovakia in 1970, followed by the overall classification in the Peace Race two years later. In 1972 Moravec was selected also to ride in the team time trial at the München Olympics, with Czechoslovakia placing 13th. He had further success with back-to-back victories in the GP ZTS Dubnica nad Váhom one-day race in 1973 and 1974, in addition to becoming the national road race champion. The following year the quartet of Moravec, Petr Matoušek, Vladimír Vondráček, and Petr Bucháček won bronze in the team time trial at the UCI Road World Championships in Belgium.
Moravec made his second appearance at the Olympics, placing 13th in the road race at the Montréal Games, only two minutes behind the winner. He raced for a few more years, winning a stage of the Peace Race in 1977, before having multiple top-10 stage finishes in the Milk Race in England a year later. In April 1986 Moravec was tragically killed after a collision with a truck while returning home from training. He was only 36-years-old and had been married to his second wife for just 10 days.
