Biography

Danish cyclist Ole Højlund Pedersen had a good career as an amateur during the 1960s. Pedersen’s breakout year was 1964, with him winning the prestigious Fyen Rundt one-day race, along with the team time trial titles at both the Nordic Championships and the Danish national championships. These performances earned him a place on the Olympic team for the Tokyo Games, finishing seventh in the team time trial and 15th in the road race.

The following year Pedersen retained his team time trial titles at both the Nordic Championships and the Danish national championships, in addition to winning two stages at the Tour de l’Avenir in France and a stage of the Tour of Sweden. His biggest career victory came at the 1966 UCI Road World Championships when he won the team time trial title with Verner Blaudzun, Jørgen Hansen, and Flemming Wisborg. In 1968 Pedersen returned to the Olympics, where he just missed out on a medal in the team time trial, finishing fourth. At the end of his career he rode in three editions of the Peace race from 1967 to 1969, winning a stage in 1968.
