Biography

Foil fencer Tim Gerresheim participated in three consecutive Olympic Games: in 1960 and 1964 with the mixed German team, and in 1968 for West Germany. With the German team he earned a bronze medal in 1960 and reached the quarterfinals in the next two editions. For his bronze medal in 1960, he was honored with the Silver Bay Leaf, the highest sports award in Germany. In 1959 and 1962 Gerresheim became West German foil champion. At the 1959 Worlds he lost the final with his team against the Soviet Union and earned the silver medal. In 1963 he won the international championships of Vienna in the individual foil.

Gerresheim’s father Otto founded the Fechtclub Rothenbaum in Hamburg in 1954. Tim became a graduated sports teacher and fencing master. He owned a fencing school in Hamburg and also coached actors in fencing.
