Apollo Giber von Greifenfels entered the Tver Cavalry School after graduating from high school. He became a staff captain and squadron commander of the 7th Dragoons during World War I. He emigrated to England after the War, where he served in a Newmarket Training Camp that was set up by the British to train White Russian Army troops. He returned to Russia in July 1920 to serve in the Bolshevik Revolution with the White Army of the Northern Front, though little trace of Giber von Griefenfels can be found after that. A brother, Peter, was Lieutenant of the 4th Field Engineering Battalion stationed in Hrodna, Belarus in 1909.
