Nikolay Kuznetsov was an outstanding fencer and received various military decorations in this sport, particularly in foil and spadroon fencing. At the All-Russian Amateur Sports Championship in St. Petersburg in 1910, he won silver with the spadroon. In the same year, he placed second with the foil and third with the spadroon at the tournament of the Main Gymnastics and Fencing School. At the 1912 Olympic Games, he competed in both sabre events and advanced to the second round in the individual tournament. Kuznetsov continued to achieve noteworthy results for one more year.
He was a lieutenant and later staff captain in the 2nd Pavlograd Life Hussar Regiment. In the Civil War, he became a captain in the Don Army of the Whites and was responsible for the main military automobile workshop of the ordnance unit. Nothing is known about his further fate.
