Biography

Steffi Kräker won an all-around bronze medal with the East German female gymnastics team at the 1976 Montréal Olympics. She failed to qualify for any of the apparatus finals and placed 21st in the individual all-around. Four years later at Moskva she again won the team bronze, but also added two individual medals: silver in the horse vault and bronze on the uneven bars. Individually, she placed eighth in the all-around.

Kräker also won several medals at the Europeans and the Worlds. In 1977, she won bronze on the uneven bars at the Europeans, and in 1978 she added a team bronze and a bronze in the horse vault at the Worlds. One year later she again earned two bronze at the Worlds on the uneven bars and with the team, and in 1981 also took two more with the team and in the uneven bars. Domestically, she won five national titles. Kräker became a graduated psychotherapist with her own practice in Leipzig. She was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 2011.
