Biography

István Kiss started gymnastics in 1961 at Postás in Budapest. After growing out of the youth category, he transferred to the Budapesti Honvéd, where his knowledge was perfected. In 1971 Kiss transferred to Vasas Izzó, where he competed until the end of his career. As a typical team gymnast he won the team championship eight times between 1968 and 1980. His strongest individual skill was the rings, where he won the Hungarian championship four times between 1970 and 1973.

At the 1970 World Championships in Ljubljana, Kiss finished 11th as a member of the Hungarian team. In 1972, he participated in the München Olympics, where he finished eighth in the team event.

After his retirement Kiss led training for a short time at Vasas Izzó, but without much success. After that, he disappeared from Hungarian gymnastics completely.
