Portugal competed in Olympic gymnastics for the first time at the 1952 Helsinki Games, placing 23rd and last in the team all-around. Caldeira was a member of that team and had his best finish in the horizontal bar, where he placed 126th. Although this was his only major international appearance in the sport, he later became president of the General Assembly of the Association of Olympic Athletes (AAOP) and member of the Board of the Federation of Gymnastics of Portugal (FGP). By career he was in business and helped found the Portuguese Association of Directors and Heads of Personnel, serving as its first president from 1964 through 1968. He held a degree in in economic sciences and served as human resources director for several companies.
Portugal
